On May 27, 2026, at approximately 1:52 p.m., Augusta Fire Rescue was dispatched to a marsh fire on County Road 18, south of Hall Road and north of Roebuck. Due to a First Response Agreement, the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Fire Department also responded to the incident.
Approximately 30 firefighters operating 12 emergency vehicles attended the scene. The fire consumed approximately 20 acres of marshland and was located dangerously close to a heavily forested area.
Firefighters worked under extremely difficult conditions, including intense heat, heavy smoke, and water depths of up to three feet, to successfully contain the fire within the marsh and prevent it from spreading into the adjacent forested area.
Due to the challenging terrain and conditions, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) deployed a drone equipped with thermal imaging technology to assist firefighters in locating hotspots and ensuring the fire was fully extinguished.
All fire apparatus and personnel cleared the scene at approximately 5:15 p.m.
Augusta Fire Rescue would like to thank the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Fire Department, Leeds and Grenville EMS, the Ontario Provincial Police, and Leeds Grenville Public Works for their assistance during this incident.
