The Hamilton Fire Department (HFD) says a fire that tore through a townhouse complex in Ancaster Tuesday afternoon caused about $2 million in damage.
The fire department says a call came in at around 4:30 p.m. for a possible shed fire in the backyard of a townhouse at 564 Stonehenge Drive.
Firefighters say they heard that dispatch was getting additional calls saying that one of the units was now on fire.
When fire crews arrived at the townhouses, the fire was immediately upgraded to a multi-alarm, bringing in additional crews from around the city.
Firefighters describe the fire as “aggressive” and say it quickly consumed the rear deck and fence before spreading to the townhouse and its two neighbouring units.
The fire department says the blaze was controlled in about 30 minutes but that it still managed to cause significant damage to the homes. The damage is estimated to be worth about $2 million.
HFD says no one was injured in the fire and the cause has not yet been determined.
