An Ontario group will donate 50 carbon monoxide alarms to St. Marys Fire Department.

Officials said the donation will come from the Hawkins-Gignac Foundation for Co-Education, who aim to prevent deaths caused by the poisonous gas through educating Canadians on CO safety and giving alarms to organizations and communities.

The FD says this donation provides devices to residents who don’t have one in their homes while improving safety and awareness.

Fire Chief Phil West says having a working CO alarm is an important step to protect your family.

The donation will be part of a special presentation at St. Marys fire hall March 10 at 1 p.m.
