Job Description

The Clarence-Rockland Fire Department (CRFD) is seeking a motivated and professional individual to fill the position of Prevention and Public Education Captain for the Nation Fire Department. The two neighbouring municipalities have entered into an innovative agreement under which the Clarence-Rockland Fire Department will manage the Nation Fire Department.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief/Training Officer of The Nation Fire Department, the successful candidate will manage the staff assigned to the Prevention and Public Education Division to ensure public safety and the reduction of fire potential, and to ensure that the requirements of the Ontario Building Code and the Ontario Fire Code are met for residences and businesses in the municipality of The Nation.

Requirements 

  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in fire prevention.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code and the Ontario Fire Protection and Prevention Act.
  • Have knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and workplace health and safety legislation.
  • Have knowledge of fire characteristics, fire spread, building materials and building construction and classification practices.
  • Have a good knowledge of ULC and NFPA standards.
  • Must demonstrate excellent analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, management/supervision and logical reasoning skills.
  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication in English and French to write detailed reports and presentations.
  • Must be a member of the Ontario Municipal Fire Prevention Officers Association.

Required training

  • Fire Inspector Certificate I NFPA 1031.
  • NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator Certificate.
  • NFPA 1021 Level I Officer Certificate.
  • Personal safety trainer certificate I NFPA 1035.

Asset

  • Fire Inspector Certificate II NFPA 1031.
  • NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer Certificate.
  • NFPA 1021 Level II Officer Certificate.

Salary 

According to salary scale: $112,444.20.

Successful candidates may be asked to take a written test and/or a physical fitness test, as well as a medical examination.
