Dog rescued from underneath government dock

The North Bay Fire Department and the North Bay Police Service worked together to rescue a scared Boston Terrier dog stuck underneath the government dock on the north shores of Lake Nipissing Wednesday afternoon.

One witness says a passerby heard a dog whimpering underneath the dock and alerted the North Bay Police.

The North Bay Fire Department was called to assist with the dog rescue.

Firefighters had to use a dinghy as they paddled out to the east side of the government dock to get better access to the dog.

They were able to use a dog catcher pole to rescue the scared animal.

The dog initially resisted the rescue but once it got pulled up onto the dock, witnesses say the dog seemed to understand he was rescued and happily scarfed down a granola bar fed to the Boston Terrier by a North Bay Police officer.

Police say the dog appeared to be in good health and was then transported to the Humane Society by an officer.

Police are asking the public to assist in finding who owns the dog.

Anyone with any information about the dog is asked to call the North Bay Humane Society.
