Job Description

The Corporation of the Town of South Bruce Peninsula is currently seeking an experienced Manager of Emergency Services/Fire Chief to provide leadership and operation of the municipal fire department in accordance with the Ontario Fire Protection and Prevention Act. 

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Manager of Emergency Services/Fire Chief will be responsible for planning, coordinating, operating and efficiency of the department, specifically fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue, medical response, training, administration, apparatus, equipment and communications, and for the administration of the municipal crossing guard program.  

The successful applicant must: 

§  University degree in Business administration, Public Administration, Applied Business in Emergency Services, Fire Services or Fire Engineering or a related discipline.

§  Certified as IFSAC or Pro-Board as NFPA 1021 I Fire Officer level 4

§  Minimum of 10 years fire department experience

§  Previous supervisory experience, typically at least 5 years, including at least five years as a fire department officer

§  Good knowledge of the municipal and emergency services environments

§  Computer skills, especially Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other custom software that may be in use from time to time

§  Knowledge of provincial legislation relating to the Municipal Act, the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, the Building Code Act, and municipal by-laws and enforcement processes

§  Good organizational, interpersonal and public relations skills; strong written and oral communication skills

§  Proven ability to lead and command fire service operations in both routine and emergency situations

§  Experience working with elected officials and senior leadership in a municipal or public sector environment

§  Class DZ driver’s licence and good driving record

§  Completion of necessary training and certification required by Ontario Fire Marshal Emergency Management as a Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC)

 

§  Incident Command System (ICS) training appropriate to a senior command role
