Community Honours First Responders at the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

Chatsworth, Ontario (Feb. 5, 2026) - The Grey Bruce community came together on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound for the 5th Annual Grey & Bruce County First Responders 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Hosted by the Township of Chatsworth Fire Department, the event once again paid powerful tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the first responders who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, as well as those who continue to serve and protect our local communities.

Participants from fire services, EMS, OPP, municipal police, military personnel, and other first responder groups took on the symbolic challenge of completing 10 laps within the arena – representing the 110 flights of stairs climbed by firefighters in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Many completed the climb in full turnout gear or duty uniforms, honouring the physical and emotional demands faced by responders on that day and every day. Spectators, local vendors, and community partners were present to cheer on participants and show their support.

The event supports CMHA’s Resilient Minds training program, which provides crucial mental health education tailored specifically to first responders across the region. All proceeds from the event directly support local training initiatives aimed at strengthening mental health literacy, resilience, and well-being among those who regularly face trauma in the line of duty.

Thanks to the generosity of participants, donors, and supporters, the 2025 event raised over $5,000 for Resilient Minds Training through CMHA. These funds will help ensure first responders in Grey Bruce continue to have access to specialized mental health training and supports when they need them most.

CMHA Grey Bruce would like to give a special shoutout to Capt. Drew MacKinnon and Brent Radmore of Chatsworth Fire Department, Cait MacKinnon, and the entire team at Chatsworth Fire Department for hosting, organizing, and planning such an incredible event.
