Waterloo Regional Police have charged a 32-year-old man who they say deliberately started a fire inside a Kitchener apartment building.
Early on the morning of Feb. 13, crews were called to York Street and Union Boulevard to put out flames in a parking garage.
Police said several of the vehicles were damaged, as were parts of building’s structure.
“The cost of the arson-related damages is estimated to be in the millions of dollars,” they wrote in a media release.
On Feb. 24, they released an image of a suspected arsonist.
The 32-year-old man, who police did not identify, was arrested the following day and charged with a total of 12 offences: arson with disregard for human life, arson with damage to property, break and enter to commit an indictable offence, break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of possession of break-in instruments, two counts of disguise with intent, two counts of non-compliance with a probation order and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.
