Resilience, leadership and breaking barriers. That’s what it takes to rise through the ranks of the fire service. And CFUW Orillia’s February meeting speaker, Ashley Noganosh, will tell members exactly how she used all three to become Deputy Chief with the Orillia Fire Department.
“CFUW Orillia members are going to be well and truly inspired,” said Diane Porteous, president of CFUW Orillia. “Ashley has made history as both the first woman and the first Indigenous person to become Deputy Chief.”
Ashley began her firefighting career at age 19 as one of 10 recruits, and the only female, at the former Ontario Fire College in Gravenhurst. As a young mother, she was determined to build a better life. Rising through the ranks, she became Rama First Nation’s first female Deputy Chief and then the first female Deputy Chief at the Orillia Fire Department. ”If something is really in your heart and that is what you want to do, follow your dreams and go after it,” said Ashley in a recent Orillia Matters interview.
If you are interested in coming to Ashley’s presentation at 7 p.m. on Feb. 24 as a guest or joining CFUW Orillia, please email cfuworillia@gmail.com.
