Lambton College to host provincial FireFit championship this summer

Lambton College will welcome elite firefighters from across Ontario this summer as it hosts the Western Ontario Regional FireFit Championship from July 17 to 19.

The three-day event will transform the Sarnia campus into a large-scale competition venue, drawing firefighters, industry partners, and spectators from across the region. FireFit competitions are designed to simulate real emergency scenarios, with athletes racing through physically demanding challenges such as stair climbs, hose advances, equipment carries, and victim rescues.

College officials say the event offers a unique opportunity for students, particularly those enrolled in fire-related programs, to experience the profession in a highly practical setting.

Hosting the championship aligns with Lambton College’s focus on experiential learning and industry collaboration, according to college leadership, while also highlighting the training pathways available to students pursuing careers in emergency services.

The college’s own FireFit team will enter the 2026 season following a strong performance last year, where athletes captured 36 medals, including seven at the Canadian National and World Championships. Team members also achieved national records in relay and team events, with Lambton athlete Keira Adams earning Rookie of the Year honours and a fifth-place finish in women’s individual competition.

Organizers say the championship weekend will include opportunities for community involvement, including a corporate challenge that allows local organizations to compete on the FireFit course. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses interested in supporting the event or the Lambton College FireFit team.

The Western Ontario Regional FireFit Championship is scheduled for July 17 to 19, with additional event details and registration information available through the Lambton College website.
