House explosion ‘isolated incident’ says fire chief

A house explosion in Fullarton on Halloween was an “isolated incident” with “no criminal or suspicious circumstances” say officials with the West Perth Fire Department.

On Oct. 31, around 12:30 p.m., fire crews were called to an explosion and fire at a home in Fullarton.

Crews arrived to find “significant damage” to the residence, with “visible signs of an explosion and small fire.”

Once they secured the scene and put the fire out, investigators were able to determine that the explosion originated from inside the home, and was related to the propane fuel distribution system in the home.

They say no one was home at the time of the explosion, and no one was injured as a result of it.

“This was an isolated incident unique to this property,” said Bill Hunter, Fire Chief of the Perth East / West Perth Fire Departments.

“There is no ongoing risk to nearby homes or residents. We understand that an event like this can cause concern, but the situation is fully under control, and the area is safe,” he continues.

Hunter is urging residents to adhere to propane safety practices, which include having all propane appliances and fittings installed and serviced by qualified technicians, check hoses and connections for leaks before use and never use propane appliances indoors or in enclosed spaces.
