First responders get warm thank you responding to Highway 17 crash

CTV News

A crash involving a commercial vehicle and a passenger vehicle shut down a section of Highway 17 for hours earlier this month, with first responders receiving a warm welcome from the community and a kind gesture from a local restaurant during the lengthy closure.

On Feb. 10, first responders, including Ontario Provincial Police, Hagar Paramedic Services, the Markstay and Warren Fire Departments, all responded to the collision near Markstay-Warren.

The driver of the commercial vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries and subsequently released

“The highway was closed for just under five hours for the investigation and removal of the vehicles,” said in a social media post.

In the post, OPP expressed gratitude to everyone who helped manage the incident.

As first responders worked the scene in frigid February conditions, staff from Kate’s Kountry Kitchen provided hot coffee to the emergency crews.

OPP issued a special thank you to the restaurant for providing the warm refreshments.

OPP have not released any details on the cause of the crash or if any charges are pending as a result.
