A late-night structure fire in downtown Simcoe caused significant damage to a vacant commercial building early Tuesday morning, according to Norfolk County emergency officials.
At approximately 12:45 a.m. on June 9, 2026, the Norfolk County Fire Department, Norfolk County Paramedic Services, and the Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports of a fire at a property on Water Street.
When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire concentrated at the front entrance of the building. Firefighters acted quickly to bring the blaze under control, successfully preventing it from spreading deeper into the structure. Officials say their rapid response helped avoid what could have become a total loss of the building.
Once the fire was contained, crews conducted a thorough search of the interior to ensure no occupants were inside at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.
The building, which previously operated as a restaurant, sustained significant damage primarily to the front entrance and façade. Preliminary damage estimates are set at approximately $150,000. It has not yet been confirmed whether the property was insured.
Emergency officials have confirmed that the fire is currently under investigation by both the Norfolk County Fire Department and the Ontario Provincial Police. At this time, investigators say there is no indication the fire is suspicious in nature.
Following the completion of the investigation, a restoration company has been brought in to secure the vacant structure and prevent further damage or unauthorized access.
