Volunteer firefighters have a new truck, thanks to money from a federal fund.
The Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF), formerly known as the federal Gas Tax Fund, provided the money for Red Rock to replace an old fire rescue truck.
“This vital piece of equipment ensures our firefighters have the resources they need to respond to incidents in the community and along Highway 11/17,” a recent post on the township’s Facebook page says.
The CBPF covered 100 per cent of the $110,570 cost for the truck, which replaced a 1993 cube van, and its retrofitting for use by the fire department, Red Rock chief administrative officer Elisa McLeod told Newswatch.
The township of Red Rock used money from the CCBF in 2025 to make upgrades at the municipal water treatment plant and improvements to the local arena., including a new ammonia and carbon monoxide detection system.
CCBF money also supported work on Red Rock’s asset management plan, energy efficiency improvements to the public works garage and other municipal facilities, “user space enhancements” at the local recreation centre, and other initiatives, according to the Facebook post.
The CCBF’s website says municipalities across Canada receive more than $2.5 billion annually from the fund, which was launched in 2005 to federal gasoline excise tax revenues.
