A shared fire administration proudly leads the respective Volunteer Fire Departments of each municipality, serving the communities of Espanola , Webbwood, Massey, Walford, and surrounding areas.

Position: Regional Deputy Fire Chief

The Regional Deputy Fire Chief under the supervision of the Regional Fire Chief is a full-time permanent role that assists with overseeing the Fire Department's administration, financial management, and operations, providing strategic leadership and support to the Department. This role ensures compliance with legislative requirements and formulates detailed reports for government bodies and councils. The role provides leadership for the Espanola Fire Department and the Sables-Spanish Rivers Fire Department and reports to the Regional Fire Chief.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Fire Services Administration, Public/Business Administration, Emergency Management, or equivalent.
  • Training at the Ontario Fire College or similar educational seminars.

Experience

  • 5-7 years of supervisory experience.
  • 8 years as firefighter (volunteer/professional).
  • Experience as an officer considered an asset.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certifications

  • NFPA certifications: NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter I, NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter II, NPFA 1021 Fire Officer I, NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator I, NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector, and NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator.
  • CEMC designation or willingness to obtain.

Skills and Competencies

  • Extensive knowledge in Fire Service areas: Prevention, Inspection, Education, Suppression, and Training.
  • Strong financial management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Other Requirements

  • Valid Class DZ Ontario Driver’s license and clean criminal record.
  • Expectation to achieve these designations within 5 years:
    • NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Awareness or higher
    • NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor I
    • NFPA 1041 Instructor II
    • NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer
  • Expectation to achieve these designations within 10 years:
    • NFPA 1021 Fire Officer IV
    • Fire Code Division B – Part 2 and 6
    • Fire Code Division B – Part 9
    • Fire Code Division B – Part 4
    • Fire Code Division B – Part 3 and 5
  • Regular travel between municipalities.
  • Availability for evening and weekend meetings.
  • Involves physical activity, lifting up to 25 lbs.

Salary Range: $86,286 to $103,030, comprehensive benefits package and OMERS Pension Plan.
