Effective immediately, the Town of Collingwood has elevated its Fire Danger Rating to High.
This decision, made by the Collingwood Fire Department, reflects the continued dry conditions and increased risk of wildfires within the municipality.
Collingwood Fire Chief Dan Thurman emphasizes the need for extreme caution.
"The lack of significant rainfall has created very dry conditions, increasing the potential for rapid fire spread. We urge all residents and visitors to be highly vigilant and adhere to these restrictions to protect our community."
The fire chief will reassess the weather and environmental conditions early next week. If the current dry spell persists, the town may implement a complete fire ban (Extreme Fire Danger Rating), which would prohibit all forms of open-air burning, including for cooking and warmth.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the Town of Collingwood website and social media channels for updates on the fire danger rating. Violations of the By-law may result in charges and fines.
