One person has been taken to hospital following a residential fire in Waterloo Sunday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded to the blaze around 2:45 p.m. in the area of Star Flower Avenue and Columbia Forest Boulevard.
Waterloo Fire Rescue says a 65-year-old man was trapped on the second floor of the home before being rescued. He was transported to hospital with unknown injuries.
A 35-year-old woman was also in the home but was able to evacuate safely.
In a social media post at 3:29 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police confirmed road closures were in effect in the immediate area and urged drivers to avoid the scene and seek alternate routes.
Fire officials say the home had working smoke alarms. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
