Tiny Township's Fire and Emergency Services recently welcomed a new fire tanker truck into service.
Now fully operational, the made-in-Ontario truck will be stationed at Tiny fire station #2 in Wyevale.
The tanker truck is specifically designed to support firefighting operations in areas of the municipality not served by fire hydrants. Much of Tiny relies on tanker-based water delivery, making this apparatus a critical component of our emergency response.
"The addition of this tanker strengthens our ability to protect lives and property throughout the municipality,” says Dave Flewelling, the township's fire and emergency services director/fire chief. “It represents a major investment in safety for both our community and our firefighters”.
The tanker, which was funded through fire department reserves, carries 9,000 litres of water and is equipped with an onboard pump capable of flowing 5,000 litres per minute, allowing firefighters to supply water quickly and efficiently at fire scenes. This new unit replaces a tanker over 20 years of age which improves the reliability, safety, and operational capability of Tiny Fire’s vehicle fleet.
“We’re thrilled to welcome a brand-new made in Ontario tanker truck to Tiny Fire’s fleet,” Mayor David Evans says. “This purchase replaces an aging fleet vehicle that was in service for over 20 years. This new tanker reflects our commitment to providing our firefighters with the proper equipment they need to protect our community. We honour those who run toward danger so the rest of us can be safe.”
In addition to various fleet vehicles, Tiny Fire also maintains an accredited superior tanker shuttle service through Fire Underwriters Survey.
This accreditation means that our Fire Department can provide quality fire protection services in areas not serviced by fire hydrants. This accreditation confirms the department’s ability to deliver sustained water supply operations in rural areas, providing residents with assurance that effective fire protection is available even in locations without hydrants. This achievement can also provide insurance discounts to eligible property owners.
