Flames tore through a third-floor apartment in Penetanguishene early Monday morning, forcing residents into the cold as police investigate what they are calling a suspicious fire.
Just after 7 a.m., officers with the Southern Georgian Bay detachment along with crews from the Penetanguishene Fire Department were called to an apartment complex on Poyntz Street.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control while police helped evacuate residents from the building.
Officials say one apartment sustained extensive damage. No injuries were reported, and all residents, except those displaced from the affected unit, have since been allowed to return home.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal. No charges have been laid.
