Fire engulfs Orléans townhome causing extensive damage

CityNews

Multiple 911 callers prompted a quick response from Ottawa firefighters who tackled a blaze in an east-end townhome.

Crews first got word of the fire when callers described to dispatch that they could see flames and smoke coming from an attached townhome in the 100 block of Waterfern Way in the Orléans community of Summerside.

Firefighters were on scene and saw flames had crept up the back of the house and called for further resources at 3:06 p.m. on Aug. 24.

Using hoses, crews doused the flames from the outside while another team searched the building for any people. Once the second search was done, officials confirmed no one was inside.

The blaze was declared under control by 4:23 p.m. after causing extensive damage to the attic, roof, and back of the home, photos from firefighters show. A secondary home attached was also damaged during the blaze.

Victims Services was dispatched to the scene to help the eight displaced people along with an Ottawa fire investigator.
