One person has died after fire ripped through a home on the shore of Lake Erie in Leamington over the weekend.
Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the Sunday morning blaze at a residence in the 100 block of Seacliff Drive West.
Leamington Fire Services crews were called to the scene just after 7:15 a.m.
One individual was located within the residence and was pronounced deceased, according to police.
Police said the identity of the deceased had not been confirmed as of Monday morning.
Several OPP officers were on the scene Monday morning, along with Leamington Fire Services officials and yellow caution tape closed off the scene.
What appeared to be a heavily damaged, single-storey home and garage could be seen behind the vehicles.
Police said in a statement, “there are no concerns for public safety at this time,” but did not elaborate.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the OPP crime unit, with assistance from Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal.
In an advisory posted to social media, motorists were being urged on Sunday afternoon to avoid the area of Seacliff Drive West between Oakwoods Drive and Bayshore Drive in Leamington “due to an ongoing police investigation.”
