Emergency crews respond after jeep hits house on Ashmun Street

Sault Ste. Marie Police Department Captain Kristin Autore issued the following statement to SooLeader on Thursday's incident.

"The vehicle was northbound on Ashmun Street when it failed to successfully navigate the curve in the roadway. The driver was cited for careless driving. The structure had to be supported and secured before the vehicle could be moved."

Sault Ste. Marie Police, fire, and EMS are on the scene of a crash at 1120 Ashmun St. in Sault Ste. Marie.

At about 8:35 a.m. on Thursday, a call came in to Central Dispatch reporting a vehicle had hit a house.

Fire officials confirmed there were two people inside the house when the collision occurred.

The driver was taken out of the jeep and put in the ambulance, but refused transport to the hospital, fire officials reported.

There’s no official word on the cause of the collision at this time.

The building inspector is on site to examine the damage to the house, and SooLeader will continue to update as official information is released.
