Sudbury police say the remains of a 79-year-old man were found inside the scene of a structure fire early Friday morning in Levack.

While it’s not yet known how the man died, police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn told CTV News the death is not considered suspicious.

Greater Sudbury Fire Services responded early Friday morning to the fire, which took place at a residence on Second Avenue in Levack.

Police called at 3 a.m.

Firefighters then called police around 3 a.m.

“Upon extinguishing the fire, firefighters located a 79-year-old man inside the home,” Dunn said in an email.

“Emergency responders began life-saving measures. However, the individual was unfortunately pronounced deceased on scene by paramedics. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.”

A post-mortem will be conducted through the Coroner’s Office to determine the cause of death.

“Detectives from the major crime section are working in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office to determine the cause of the fire,” Dunn said.

“At this time, foul play is not suspected and it does not appear to be a suspicious fire.”
