Fire Chief Tom Mulvey Announces Retirement After 33 Years of Service

The Township is proud to announce the retirement of Fire Chief Tom Mulvey, marking the end of an extraordinary 33-year career dedicated to public safety, community service, and leadership.

Chief Mulvey began his journey in 1993 as a volunteer firefighter with the Fergus Fire Department. From his earliest days in the fire service, Tom exemplified commitment, integrity, and an unwavering desire to help others.

In 2003, Tom joined Centre Wellington Fire Rescue as the Public Safety Officer, where he quickly became known for his technical expertise and forward-thinking approach. His leadership continued to expand in 2011 when he added the duties of District Chief, taking on a dual role that deepened his influence within the department. In 2018, Tom was appointed Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention & Public Education, championing fire safety, prevention awareness, and community outreach across the Township.

Tom's exemplary service and deep dedication culminated in his appointment as Fire Chief in 2021. Throughout his tenure, he led with humility, professionalism, and a profound respect for his team. Under his leadership, Centre Wellington Fire Rescue strengthened its culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence -- earning the trust and confidence of residents and staff alike.

"After serving the Township for 33 years, I have made the decision to retire from Centre Wellington Fire Rescue. It has been an honour to spend my career with CWFR, and I am extremely proud to have had the opportunity to serve as Fire Chief," said Tom Mulvey.  "Throughout my time in the fire service, I have been fortunate to work alongside an incredible team and to have the support of so many colleagues, friends, and community members. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my family for their unwavering support over the years."

His leadership, calm presence, and commitment to community safety have made a lasting impact on our organization and the residents we serve. Chief Mulvey will retire effective March 31, 2026.
