Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services is investigating after a weekend fire caused significant damage to a semi-detached home in the 100 block of Greenfield Drive.
Crews responded to the residential dwelling shortly after 9 a.m. on Feb. 28.
“Upon arrival, there was significant smoke and flames visible from the semi-detached residential dwelling,” the city’s fire department said in a news release Monday.
Crews worked to contain and extinguish the blaze.
“Firefighters assisted occupants out of the neighbouring dwelling,” said the city.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
Both PUC Services and Enbridge Gas were called to the location to attend to the scene.
The building sustained major structural damage.
“Due to significant structural damage, the cause of the fire is undetermined,” said fire services.
In a subsequent email to CTV News, Aaron Gravelle, a public education officer with the fire department, said while the damage was extensive, a full financial picture is not yet available.
“At this time, we do not have a total damage estimate,” Gravelle wrote, noting the process “can take some time.”
“(But) the damage to the building was significant,” he added.
