Fire crews are still on the scene of a working fire at Olive Avenue and Oshawa Boulevard in Oshawa, with police asking drivers to avoid the area after a shoe repair shop caught fire early Thursday morning.
There is no confirmation on the cause of the blaze but Oshawa Boulevard from St. Eloi Avenue to Mitchell Avenue is expected to remain closed for much of the day, while Olive Avenue between Verdun Road and Ritson Road was reopened to traffic just after 9 a.m.
Oshawa Fire was also busy at a residential fire on Richmond Street East Tuesday and Ajax Fire battled a blaze at the Ajax Plaza Monday, with the investigation on that fire turned over to the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office.
Ajax fire crews were called out to the plaza at Harwood Avenue and Hunt Street at 2 a.m. Monday.
Wratz Collectibles, a business in the plaza adjacent to the fire, gave a “big shout out” to the Ajax Fire Department, police and “all those involved” in keeping the fire under control.
“Luckily we dodged a big one,” the post on Facebook read. “Checked inside, could smell a little smoke. Wasn’t enough to set off any alarms. Fire was contained quickly by the best in the business. We will be open as usual tomorrow.”
