A blaze tore through a detached garage Monday morning on a rural property, prompting a large response from local firefighters.
Severn Fire Chief Ritch Lowell said crews arrived to find the structure, roughly an 800-square-foot garage with an attached carport up in flames.
Seventeen firefighters were reported at the Burnside Line property, working in frigid temperatures. Crews brought the fire under control and were continuing to deal with hot spots.
Fire officials say the garage sits about 100 metres behind the home. Access wasn’t an issue, but tanker trucks were needed to supply water.
Chief Lowell confirmed small livestock including rabbits and chickens kept in the garage were in rooms that were not affected by the fire.
The cause has not yet been determined and the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Investigators from the Office of the Fire Marshal will not be required, according to authorities.
No injuries were reported.
