Time is running out for aspiring firefighters to apply for a job with Brampton Fire and Emergency Services.
The City of Brampton has posted job applications seeking to fill full-time firefighting positions with BFES. The postings say there are 10 full-time positions available with a starting salary of $71,568.60 per year.
Working 24-hour shifts rotating over a 28-day period, BFES firefighters are often the first emergency crews to arrive on the scene of emergency calls, including fires, car wrecks and medical calls.
“As a member of our team, you are expected to provide excellent customer service as well as being a leader in public fire safety education,” the posting reads, saying successful applicants will be “part of a fast-paced and rewarding environment” helping to keep Brampton communities safe.
Job duties include firefighting and emergency response, routine maintenance of firefighting equipment, and providing public fire safety education to the public.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in Canada, and have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or academic equivalent. Valid First Aid and CPR Certificates are also required, along with completion of the Ontario Fire Administration-Candidate Testing Program Stage 1 and 2, or passing the Ontario Firefighter Fitness test or York University Firefighter Fitness Assessment.
