Emergency crews responded to multiple calls about a structure fire on Shallot Crescent, where flames and smoke were seen pouring from the roof of an empty home.

Firefighters battled a significant house fire last night at an unoccupied residence on Shallot Crescent, with investigators now calling the incident suspicious.

At just after 9 p.m. last night, 911 dispatch received numerous calls about a structure fire at 29 Shallot Crescent.

Firefighters from all three fire stations responded to the reported structure fire.

"Upon arrival, firefighters observed significant smoke and flame coming from the roof of the home," said Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders. "Firefighters made entry to the home, entered the attic area, and successfully extinguished the fire. The inside of the residence had suffered significant damage".

There was nobody in the newly built home at the time of the fire, as the residence is currently vacant and available for sale.

"The cause of the fire has been determined to be suspicious by the fire investigator tasked with determining the cause of the incident," added Saunders. "The scene has been turned over to the North Bay Police Service for further investigation."
