St. Marys Fire Department’s 12 Days of Holiday Fire Safety campaign starts Friday.
The FD will promote a different fire safety theme each day, and include tips to keep the holidays safe.
Topics include holiday lights, tree watering and candles and decorations.
St. Marys Fire Chief Phil West said the holiday season is always a challenging one, with an increase in deadly fires this time of year.
Data from the Ontario Fire Marshall indicates the highest number of residential fire deaths occur from November to January, with cooking as the leading cause of home fires and careless smoking the top cause of fatal ones.
West said the best protection is prevention and ensuring fire safety is a priority can help ensure tragedies are avoided.
Holiday fire safety tips are available at the Town of St. Marys Facebook and X pages.
