Parry Sound Fire Chief Dave Thompson says one house was destroyed and one saved in the Wednesday afternoon blaze on Beatty Street.

There were no injuries, according to the chief, but two houses and two garages were affected.

More than 25 firefighters were on scene, said Thompson.

No cause has yet been determined.

The incident has affected school bus access, for parents picking up their children, Macklaim Drive is blocked at the school if approaching from the north.

UPDATE: 2:12 p.m.

A Parry Sound Public School notice to parents indicates buses are unable to access Parry Sound Public School due to emergency vehicles at the scene of a house fire near the school.

“As such, parents are requested to pick up their children any time between now and end of day dismissal (3 p.m.) via the Tudhope Street entrance. Vehicles can park in the drop-off area, enter the school using the front door to pick up their child, then proceed in their vehicle around the median and back out Tudhope Street,” reads the notice.

School officials say they appreciate everyone’s patience as there will be a lot of traffic in this area. Please be careful and watch for children, pedestrians and emergency crews.

“Students who normally walk home will be dismissed as usual, as they do not pass by the fire. Parents can choose to pick them up should they wish,” reads the notice. “After school childcare will run as per normal.”

A Parry Sound High School notice to parent says students will be dismissed as per usual, including end-of-day transportation.
