Hawkesbury apartment building fire that injured 3 may have been arson, OPP say

CBC News

Residents of an apartment building in Hawkesbury, Ont., had to be evacuated on the weekend due to a fire that provincial police now suspect may have been arson.

The fire broke out at the residential building on Portelance Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, local fire officials told Radio-Canada.

It took crews from seven different fire departments nearly three hours to bring the fire under control.

The blaze damaged roughly half of the building and destroyed the third floor, the fire department said. Approximately 30 units had to be evacuated.

Three people were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries, Ontario Provincial Police said.

Hawkesbury OPP are now investigating the fire as a potential arson.

They're asking anyone who may know more about what happened, or may have caught the incident on video, to get in touch.
