At least one family is without a home due to a fire on Saturday, November 15 in Hawkesbury.
Firefighters and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a fire at a multi-residential building on Main Street East in Hawkesbury. Main Street East near Cameron Street was closed to traffic due to the emergency. Before 10 am, the OPP announced a police investigation into the fire was underway.
The building was completely destroyed and all that remained on Sunday, November 16, was a pile of wreckage surrounded by a safety fence.
On Sunday, Paroisse St-Jean-Baptiste in L’Orignal announced on social media that a young family who moved to Canada four years ago from Cameroon were among the people who had been living in the building. No one was injured, but the family did lose everything. The family consists of a father, mother, and three children: a 12-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a one-month-old baby. They need everything, including temporary and permanent housing. They were given temporary hotel accommodation for just three days. Anyone who can help by donating clothing, baby supplies, furniture, or other items, or even by assisting with their housing search is asked to contact Lyne Durocher at 613-675-4632, or durocherlyne4@gmail.com.
