Milton Fire and Rescue Services is warning residents of fraudulent calls requesting donations on behalf of the fire department.
The calls are not authorized by anyone at Milton Fire or the Town of Milton.
Gord Fowler, deputy chief of Milton Fire and Rescue Services, encouraged people to be aware of this type of fraud.
“It’s disturbing that a scam would target our fire service to exploit Milton’s community spirit,” said Fowler. “Let’s stay vigilant so we protect ourselves and our neighbours.”
Milton Fire does not solicit donation by phone, email or door-to-door. All fundraising efforts will be announced and promoted through the official town or Fire and Rescue Services communication channels.
Anyone who believes they are receiving a suspicious call is encouraged to hang up. Never provide personal or financial information to callers you are suspicious of.
