Three people have died in hospital following a residential fire in Markham, Ont., on Friday, York Regional Police say.
York police said officers were called to the area of Carlton Road and Kennedy Road at around 6:45 a.m. The fire initially broke out in one house but spread to a neighbouring home.
The fire was already in an advanced stage when crews arrived at the scene, according to Markham Fire.
York police said several houses were evacuated due to the blaze.
Three people — two women in their 70s and a man in his 80s — were taken to hospital with serious injuries. York police said on Sunday that all three have died in hospital.
Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal was notified about the fire and is still at the scene trying to determine the cause, York police added.
