North Bay man charged with breaking into residence, starting fire

Police in North Bay have charged a 34-year-old city man with arson and other offences following an incident May 30.

Firefighters responded late in the morning to a residential fire in the area of Martin Street and Lakeshore Drive.

Police believed the man forced his way into the residence and started a fire.

“When officers arrived on scene, a fire was reported inside the residence,” police said in a June 3 news release.

“North Bay fire and emergency services responded and successfully extinguished the fire. The accused was located on the property and arrested without incident.”

No word on the extent of the damage.

The man has been charged with break and enter to commit arson, violating probation and entering the premises while prohibited.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
