Flames have destroyed a home in Morriston, Ont. where someone was shot during a 2025 home invasion.

Firefighters were called to 35 Whitcombe Way around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday.

“It was determined that no one was inside,” said Const. Matthew Burton with Ontario Provincial Police. “There’s no injuries and it was deemed a vacant building.”

By 11 a.m., the home was still smoldering and all that remained was some of the brickwork and rebar.

OPP said early reports from the Puslinch Fire Service suggested the fire could be suspicious.

“We treat every fire as suspicious unless otherwise determined, but investigators are currently looking at all the facts before making a determination,” Burton told CTV News.

Investigators with the Ontario Fire Marshal sifted through the wreckage on Tuesday.

“At this point we’ve heard some details from the Ontario Fire Marshal [that there are] some suspicions at play, but we’re going to have investigators confirm those details on scene,” Burton explained.

They are also trying to find out what started the blaze.

“It will take a couple of days to dig through the rubble to determine if it was accidental or deliberate,” Burton said.

Neighbours did not think anyone was living there.

“You tend to see people in their driveway or whatever,” said one. “I haven’t noticed a ton of activity.”

It was a very different situation four months ago.

home invasion and shooting were reported at 35 Whitcombe Way on Nov. 16, 2025. OPP said one person had been taken to a trauma centre with a gunshot wound. They shared no further details about what happened or the condition of the victim.

Days later, they released images of four people and a four-door sedan seen leaving the home.

CTV News is not aware of any arrests for the November shooting.

The investigation into Tuesday’s fire, however, will continue.

“We’re asking anyone from the public to please give us a call if you’ve got CCTV or dash cam footage between 4 a.m. to 5 a.m.,” Burton said. “Please call investigators if they’ve got any details, if they saw a vehicle coming or leaving that’s not known to the area. Any details will help.”
