Firefighters from five stations were battling a blaze Friday afternoon that caused significant damage to the RONA Moffatt and Powell in Grand Bend.

Lambton Shores fire Chief Sean Smith said emergency crews responded to the fire at the corner of Ontario Street and Lake Road at about 2 p.m. Friday. Four Lambton Shores stations as well as the South Huron fire department were on scene.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was unknown late Friday afternoon as the fire was still active. Heavy smoke poured from the structure, and Smith said between 40 and 50 residents in the area were evacuated.

Ontario Street was closed while firefighters fought the blaze.
