Local fire officials confirmed no one was hurt after a fire broke out at an encampment off of Anne Street earlier today.
Barrie Fire and Emergency Services received the call at 10:45 a.m. about a fire at a nearby encampment, said Assistant Deputy Chief Thomas Bezruki, noting five apparatus responded to the scene.
“Crews were there for about an hour and 15 minutes,” he said, adding the cause of the fire was unknown at that point.
Nobody was at the scene when crews arrived, Bezruki said, noting there were two structures on the site.
“Two structures were on fire. One actual wood‑framed structure and another small secondary structure, and there was approximately 150‑foot by 150‑foot grass fire and debris fire as well,” he said. “We got on it right away and it didn’t spread any further than that. We got to it really quick.”
The fire did cause a small disruption to traffic on Highway 400 near the fire at the time, he said, noting both OPP and Ministry of Transportation blockers were used to manage the area.
