The West Perth Fire Department responded to a propane explosion and fire at a home on Road 163, Fullarton, at 12:33 p.m. on 31 Oct 2025.
Fire crews arrived to find significant damage to the residence, with visible signs of an explosion and a small fire. Firefighters worked quickly to bring the blaze under control and ensure that nearby properties were not affected.
No one was in the home at the time of the incident and there were no criminal or suspicious circumstances. There were no injuries to firefighters or members of the public.
The investigation has determined that the explosion originated inside the home and was an accidental event related to the propane fuel distribution system.
“This was an isolated incident unique to this property,” said Bill Hunter, Fire Chief of the Perth East / West Perth Fire Departments. “There is no ongoing risk to nearby homes or residents. We understand that an event like this can cause concern, but the situation is fully under control, and the area is safe.”
The West Perth Fire Department reminds residents of the importance of following proper safety practices when using propane appliances or equipment:
- Have all propane appliances and fittings installed and serviced by qualified technicians.
- Store and handle propane cylinders outdoors in well-ventilated areas.
- Check hoses and connections for leaks before use.
- Never use outdoor propane appliances indoors or in enclosed spaces.
The West Perth Fire Department extends its thanks to the Perth East Fire Department (Sebringville Station), St. Marys Fire Department, Perth County OPP, Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal, Technical Standards and Safety Authority, Victim Services Huron-Perth, and the Canadian Red Cross for their support.
