The Nation Fire Department receives grant for new carbon monoxide monitoring equipment

The Review

The Nation Fire Department has received a $2,500 Fueling Futures Grant from Enbridge Gas to help purchase new equipment that will assist firefighters in responding to carbon monoxide-related emergencies.

The grant will be used toward the purchase of carboxyhemoglobin (SpCO) monitors, non-invasive devices that allow emergency responders to quickly measure carbon monoxide levels in a person’s blood using a sensor placed on the finger. The technology helps firefighters assess possible carbon monoxide exposure at the scene without requiring a blood sample.

The Nation Mayor Francis Brière said the new equipment will provide firefighters with additional resources to better serve residents during emergency situations.

“We are grateful for Enbridge Gas’ support and investment in the safety of our community,” said Brière. “This equipment will help provide our firefighters with additional tools to better protect and assist residents during emergency situations.”

The total cost of the equipment is approximately $4,500, with the remaining amount being covered through the fire department’s operational budget.

In a statement, Enbridge Gas said the Fueling Futures Grant program supports local initiatives that improve safety, sustainability and community well-being.
