Crews were called to a blaze in downtown that prompted multiple alarms and a risk of damage to nearby buildings.
Firefighters were called on Saturday around 7:39 p.m. for a report that smoke was visible in a hallway. The building is a mixed-use structure housing multiple units and a commercial business.
Teams responded to the 100 block of Bank Street in the downtown core and declared a working fire at 7:48 p.m. Once inside, they confirmed the stairs to the basement had visible smoke. Just after 8:00 p.m. a second alarm was called to dispatch more resources.
Nearby buildings were at risk of catching due to the situation, forcing firefighters to work on the outside and inside of the structure.
Crews searched the building for people, while other teams doused the active flames.
The fire was declared under control by 8:34 p.m. A fire investigator was sent to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
