The City of Brampton and Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (BFES) have unveiled a new memorial honouring BFES firefighters who died on duty or due to health problems directly related to their jobs.
The new memorial, which was unveiled on June 10, is located at the department’s training facility located on Chrysler Drive.
“Today is a time of reflection and remembrance. It is an opportunity to recognize those who dedicated themselves to protecting others and who made sacrifices in service to the community,” Fire Chief Andy Glynn said in his remarks prior to the unveiling.
“This memorial is a deeply meaningful tribute to the members of Brampton Fire and Emergency Services who lost their lives in the line of duty or due to service-related illness. Their commitment to protecting our community represents the very best of the fire service,” the chief added in a release from the city.
The memorial includes a bronze sculpture of a kneeling firefighter in full firefighter gear with a female firefighter in dress uniform standing over him with her hand on his shoulder.
