Two small wildland fires have been confirmed near North Bay and are not under control, according to Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services.
The fires, identified as North Bay 2 (NOR002) and North Bay 3 (NOR003), were both confirmed Monday afternoon.
North Bay 2 is estimated at 0.4 hectares and is located about 0.25 kilometres south of Feronia Road and one kilometre northwest of Doule Lake.
North Bay 3 is estimated at 0.5 hectares and is located about 0.3 kilometres south of Pine Poultry Road and one kilometre east of Warren Avenue.
Officials say both fires remain not under control as of the latest update issued at 6:30 p.m.
Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services is reminding the public that outdoor fire rules are in effect across Ontario during the legislated fire season, which runs from April 1 to Oct. 31.
Residents are encouraged to use alternatives such as composting or local landfill services to dispose of yard waste. If burning is necessary, officials say fires should be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise, with proper tools and water available on site.
People living within municipal boundaries are also advised to check with their local fire department for any restrictions or permit requirements.
