The Township of Bonfield has a new fire chief, Shaun McGee. To welcome him, the township held an open house at the fire department on July 28. During the event, officials also recognized the significant achievements of its volunteer firefighters.

Mayor Narry Paquette, along with Chair and Vice-Chair of the Emergency Services Committee, Councillors Steve Featherstone and Donna Clark, formally welcomed Chief Shaun McGee to his new role. Mayor Paquette said, “Leadership is essential, and our department now has a new leadership team in place to support both our volunteers and the broader community.”

Chief McGee was appointed to the position in February 2025 and has since relocated to Bonfield with his family. He brings 24 years of experience to the role, having previously served as a firefighter with the City of Brampton.

“My vision is to provide the highest level of fire protection services to the residents of Bonfield,” said Chief McGee. “We have a very dedicated team here, and I’m extremely proud to be part of this department.”

The township also recognized Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Strood for his recent appointment. The mayor presented him with a certificate and offered her congratulations. “Our volunteers are truly exceptional. Tonight, we celebrate Matt’s new role and the continued commitment of all our volunteer firefighters,” Mayor Paquette said.

Captain Nick Watson and firefighter Zach Mason each received certificates acknowledging their 10 years of service. Nathan Landry was presented a 5-year service pin as well.

Mayor Paquette reminded the fire fighters of the township’s support, including council’s decision to invest in new bunker gear, and replacing the department’s breathing apparatus system.
