After responding to a fire yesterday, the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services is reminding residents to regularly maintain fuel-burning appliances and chimneys – including those within a sauna.
The 911 call came in shortly before 10 p.m. last night for a home on Laronde Avenue.
“Upon arrival, there was visible smoke and flames from the sauna structure in the backyard area of the residence. Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire,” said Aaron Gravelle, public education officer with Sault Fire Services.
As per the Ontario Fire Code: “All solid-fuel-burning appliances and equipment shall be maintained in accordance with CSA-B365,” the release said.
Regular maintenance and proper installation of these appliances can help prevent a fire occurrence.
“There is significant fire and smoke damage to the sauna structure. There were no injuries to report," the release said.
