Damage is estimated at $2 million after flames gutted a Beamsville home and garage on King Street near Tufford Road early Monday morning.
Deputy Lincoln Fire Chief Bill Blake said firefighters got the call at about 6:45 a.m.
The garage was engulfed in flames that were spreading to the attached house when crews arrived.
Blake said the house was in a non-hydrant area. Four tankers — three from Lincoln and one from Grimsby Fire Department — were needed to battle the blaze.
“Crews actively worked to control and extinguish the fire, which was made difficult with high winds and tough conditions,” Blake said.
The lone member of the family in the house at the time was alerted by smoke alarms and got out safely.
No one was hurt.
“The cause of the fire is not known at this time; however, it is not believed to be suspicious,” Blake said.
