Help is on the way, and it’s coming a little quicker now for residents and industries in southeast London who call 911.
The hose was officially connected in a ceremony Thursday to mark the grand opening of Fire Station 15, located at the corner of Old Victoria Road and Hamilton Road.
The station has a staff of five firefighters, and the apparatus bay houses a fire truck and tanker.
London Fire Chief Lori Hamer says the $ 7 million facility is designed to meet the needs of the growing community in southeast London.
“Definitely needed. And we strive to be very proactive, watch the trends where neighbourhoods are filling in, where industry is coming into London, to ensure that we have firehalls in areas to make our response within the timeframe that we want to be able to respond,” explained Hamer.
Station 15 was also commissioned to help celebrate London’s bicentennial this year.
