If you see a large emergency presence near Bayport Marina in the coming weeks, there is no cause for concern.

The Town of Penetanguishene is advising residents and visitors that members of the Penetanguishene Fire Department will be conducting ice water rescue training at Bayport Marina.

The certification exercises will take place on Feb. 28, and March 1, 7, 8 and 14, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

During those times, people can expect to see emergency vehicles parked in the area, firefighters dressed in rescue gear and crews operating on or around the ice.

“This training is a planned certification exercise designed to ensure our firefighters remain fully prepared for emergency ice and water rescue situation,” says Interim Fire Chief John Crawford.

Officials say there is no emergency situation associated with the activity.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding as our Penetanguishene Fire Department completes this important training to serve our community better,” concludes Crawford.
