Windsor fire officials say two people were taken to hospital after an apartment fire on Ouellette Avenue.
The upgraded fire was at a four-storey building in the 1300 Block of Ouellette Avenue around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Chief five prevention officer John Smith said the residents were heating oil on the stove and it ignited into flames. He says as one resident was removing the pot from the stove, she tripped and it ignited on the couch.
Smith says she had burns from grease on legs. A second person had cuts and burns on his hands.
They were both taken to hospital, one was treated and released on the scene. A third person was accessed for smoke inhalation on scene and not transported to hospital.
Smith says in this case, the pot should have been covered with a lid initially and the stove should have been shut off.
The public was asked to avoid the area when multiple emergency vehicles were responding.
